Barcelona 2013⎟Day 1

Barcelona: Day 1

Yesterday morning at 10 am I jumped on a plane to Barcelona, got myself a window seat and spent the rest of the flight celebrating my sister's birthday and the promise of a few days of nothing but sun and fun. So, this technically is already Barcelona day 2 and I'm cheating, but we were very tired after our flight and only went in town again after dark for a quick look around and a yummy meal. Pictured above is the view from our apartment close to the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona's famous church.

This morning I woke up early after a much needed sleep and took a refreshing shower, because I felt a bit gross after spending a day hopping about, trying to get everywhere in time. But I was very pleased, because we were planning on visiting the Picasso museum, who is one of my absolute favourite artists! The museum contains sketches, sculptures and paintings that were made by Picasso throughout his whole life. His most famous works were painted in Paris and some can be found at the Centre Pompidou (one of my all time favourite museums), but I actually really enjoyed seeing some of his more earlier works as well. Walking inside, you found yourself on a path trough Picasso's life, starting with his most early works all the way back to his nineties. Unfortunately, you weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but on the photo above you can see one of his self-portraits. It's the first time any museum has had such a big collection of these works.

I took this picture while I was walking trough the museum. It was a little outside area with a palm tree in the middle and it looked very serene, it made me want to live there. It's a big building with an entrance that leads out to just a small street, so when we arrived there was a queue that was huge, leading all the way around the corner to another street. But, I must say it was totally worth the wait, because it was a very interesting and well put-together exhibition and I hadn't seen any of Picasso's self portraits before, which were really nice.

After visiting the Picasso museum, we sat down at a terrace and ate different kinds of typical Spanish tapas. They were so good! Tapas are basically finger food, for example patatas bravas, potatoes with some sort of sweet sauce, and calamares, which is fried squid. After our tiny break we walked to the Palau de la Música.

On the left you can see part of the building. I thought this was a lovely looking alley.

This is the front of the building. They built the entire thing in only three years time! Many famous composers, singers and choirs have performed here. You can find busts of Bach, Beethoven and loads of many others inside. My dad is looking out for tickets for one of the shows that will be held there in the coming few days. They have about 400 shows a year with very different types of music, ranging from classical music to reggae.

Above you can see the inside of the building. This concert hall is known for its excessive amount of natural lightning, most of the time those lights aren't used during performances. Important about this room is that there are elements to be found everywhere that show a connection between different countries and their typical types of music and musical instruments. On stage are sculptures of eighteen muses, playing eighteen different instruments from different countries. They were made as an inspiration to artists and an example of solidarity.

After our tour around the building, we went back to our apartment for a little rest and to prepare ourselves for dinner. They have dinner really late in Spain and most restaurants only start serving food at about 9 pm, apparently. We got home exceptionally late from our dinner yesterday, but I did have a delicious apple tart as dessert!

Outside is the right side ⎟Garden Tour

You may have remembered from my last post that recently I decided that outside is the right side! I have always been one of those gawky kids who was reluctant about going outside on a nice summer's day and rather spend it inside cooling off. As a result I still am the exactly same shade of white today that I was when I was born, apart from a few holidays tans that have faded away a long time ago.

But since I am leaving for Barcelona in just a few days time and I can safely say Spain is one of the hottest countries that I have ever visited before, I felt like it would be a good idea to prepare myself for outside fun times and took my camera outside to photograph my vibrant garden!

As you probably can tell, I'm a very lucky girl and have a big beautiful garden to relax in and discover when the sun decides to come out. You may not be familiar with Belgian weather, but I'm sure you've heard of London weather before and let me tell you, we're stuck in the exact same situation.
Thus, when the sun comes out, it's a true blessing for us and therefore try to enjoy it as much as we can.

As you can see in the background of the picture, there are lots and lots of big trees. Those belong to my neighbour who owns quite a few sheep and has a huge ground that they can walk around on. I can imagine those trees are decades old, since there are so many of them. I think our whole neighbourhood sees them as a blessing, because they really make our view even more beautiful.

And right at the back of the picture is the forrest.
You can only begin to imagine how lovely the view is from our roof!

Our garden stretches out more to the left as well, as you can tell from this picture. We've been growing  an apple tree and a cherry tree there, but they're only a few years old and look more like the skinny first graders of trees. There's a also a huge amount of plastic on the floor that is supposed to be our pool, but still has to be filled up with water. So, that's why I didn't include a photo of this in my tour.

Towards the right of the picture you can see our lavender starting to grow.

I think this is my favourite part of our garden. These flowers make our garden look a bit more wild and rough and are a home to many kinds of insects in the summer. As long as the snails and bees stay over there and I can just enjoy looking at them, without getting stung or slimy, I'm okay with it.

Lavender always reminds me of the south of france where there are loads of lavender fields across the roads. I remember those drives as one of the best memories of my childhood. Being a little kid in a different country always made me feel like an explorer, which I why I find travelling to be such an awesome experience.

they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul."

Introductions!

Welcome to LizeBlogs!

Lize // 18 // Belgium // Student

Contemplating about whether or not to do something, I have found, is never a good idea. Definitely not when it is something that you shouldn't be thinking too much about in the first place. Which is why I created this blog the minute I thought it would be a fun idea. Unfortunately I cannot yet promise that it will turn out to be any good. I hope you enjoy flicking trough it anyway!

And as introductions are always a needed, but also lovely thing to have,
here is some more information about me;

I live in a rather peaceful neighbourhood, but close to the bigger cities. As I post more things on this blog, I hope I can bring you on a journey trough these places and show you my wonderful surroundings. I promise I won't stay a drawn face to you either! Even though I have always lived and loved in Belgium and all of my family members are from this country, I feel most at home when I am travelling. Which is why "thoughts from places" are the kind of posts you can mostly expect from this blog.

I am writing my very first post (and it is definitely harder than I first thought it would be) from my bedroom. My Lana Del Rey CD is playing and I am looking forward to going to the park later today. Recently we had a lovely café open up over there and I have spent many weekends in the sun, with a refreshing drink in front of me.

Besides travelling and relaxing at our park, I enjoy making random lists and collecting quotes for in my notebook that I got at a little shop at Covent Garden in London. England is my favourite country and I hope to be able to live and work there in a few years time. Speaking about lists, I made a tiny one today;

Today I have;

• gone outside and photographed my garden
•collected quotes and written them in my notebook
• freed my room from memories of lonely nights
• dreamt about places far away on forgotten islands
• told myself that outside is the right side

 I usually post these on my Tumblr that I have had for three years, but I decided that a personal blog would be a much better place for other people to read and enjoy them. I have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter and have been trying to get my mom to take me to the Harry Potter Warner Brothers Studio Tour in England again, but so far no luck. Let us all pray that at the end of the summer, I will have a post about how I had a great time drinking butterbeer and visiting my favourite place on earth again.

And that is it for today! I hope you enjoyed reading some more about me and that I got you exited for future posts to come! I won't be posting every day, but I will try my best to get at least one post up per week.
